Thai Chicken BBQ – street style flavor! (gai yaang)

Gai Yaang or Thai Chicken BBQ is one of the most popular street foods you’ll find in Thailand.
The flavor is on point and the juiciness of the chicken will make you never stop eating!
Pair with Sticky rice and Papaya salad to complete this amazing meal 🙂

prep. 10 min(not include marinating time) + cook 45 min + rest 5 min » total 60 min » 6 – 8 servings

A whole chicken (cut up) or 4 – 6 lbs. of any part of chicken you preferred.

5 – 6 cloves of Garlic (finely chopped)
2 tbsp        Coriander seeds (finely crushed)
1 tbsp        Whole Black pepper (finely crushed)

1 tbsp        Salt
4 tbsp        Brown Sugar
4 tbsp        Soy sauce
3 tbsp        Oyster sauce
3 tbsp        Vegetable oil
1 tbsp        Sesame oil
1/3 cup      Water

3-4 Lemongrass stalks (crushed)

Thai Chicken BBQ Ingredients

Step one – Mix the marinating sauce
Use mortar & pestle ( or use a blender)to crush garlic, coriander seeds & black pepper (in order) until blended. Then follow with the remaining ingredients (exclude lemongrass), mix well together.

Marinate chicken for couple hours or over night.

Step two – Marinate the chicken:
Combine all of the marinating sauce into the chicken bowl, including crushed lemongrass. Mix everything together. Cover and let the chicken marinate in refrigerator for a couple hours or overnight.

Tip**The longer you marinate, the  tastier the chicken.

Skin side up & ready to cook!

Step three – Start cooking:
Preheat oven to 375˚ F. Place chicken on a pan (skin side up first). After 30 minutes, flip the chicken and let it cook for another 15 minutes. Check to ensure the chicken is fully cooked. (Internal temp. of chicken should be 165˚ F).

Tip**Prevent overcooked chicken breast by removing them from the pan 10 minutes earlier than the rest of the chicken.

After chicken is cooked, let it rest on the pan for another 5 minutes, then it’s ready to be served! Enjoy!
